Bramble Hill Course (Fancourt Hotel & Golf Estate)
Designed by the Gary Player Design Co., Bramble Hill is a welcome addition to the already strong Fancourt portfolio. As the youngest of Fancourt’s four layouts, Bramble Hill serves as the public course so can get busy in the high season. With a touch of a links-like feel about it, the Fancourt greenkeepers have done a fantastic job in the conditioning of the fairways, greens and tee boxes.
As a new course the holes are still fighting it out for the coveted signature status, however the 3rd is a cracker; measuring 402 yards off the back this par 4 doglegs left around a dominant water feature, making it a real challenge.
18 Holes, Par 72, Yardage 6269. Links.
Montagu Course (Fancourt Hotel & Golf Estate)
Designed by Gary Player, the majestic parkland Montague course is one of the best conditioned in South Africa and has regularly been ranked as the top course in the country. This cleverly designed layout has generous Kikuyu fairways and fast grass greens similar to the courses favoured by the US Tour. Indeed the most challenging, nerve wracking and enjoyable hole, the par-3 17th whose green can only be reached by clearing a large expanse of water, is very similar to the 12th at Augusta National. As play on this course is only limited to members and hotel residents, you will have ample time to play at your own pace while taking in the beautiful surroundings. It’s truly a top golfing experience.
18 Holes, Par 72, Yardage 6912. Parkland.
Outeniqua Course (Fancourt Hotel & Golf Estate)
The Outeniqua is another majestic parkland layout at the Fancourt Resort. It is similar in character and design to its sibling, the Montague, and its challenging design and fine conditioning will ensure an excellent test for golfers of all standards. As with all four of the Fancourt courses, there are a variety of tees ensuring that no golfer feels overpowered by the course. Similarly, you need never feel pressured on your round, as the Outiniqua course is exclusive to members and hotel residents only. Book early however as The Outeniqua Course is always in high demand. Golf carts are available for hire while knowledgeable caddies are available too.
It is worth noting that caddies are often expected to be taken for first-timers on the course.
18 Holes, Par 72, Yardage 6952. Parkland.
The Links Course (Fancourt) (Fancourt Hotel & Golf Estate)
For a great test of golf in stunning surroundings, The Links Course at Fancourt is hard to beat. Host to the President's Cup in November 2003 it presents a unique golfing experience, that is in the same league as some of the best links golf in the likes of Scotland and Ireland. It is however one of the most difficult tests of golf in South Africa so we recommend you carry more balls than usual and be patient - The Links was never meant to be a low scoring, target golf course. Thankfully this course provides some of the best caddies in the country to guide you round.
Top holes to look out for are the signature 15th which doglegs around a large dam, and the short par-4 14th where a tiny green is framed by towering dunes a thick rough. This course is not for the fainthearted! Worth noting that The Links Course only offers 4 tee-times a day to hotel residents so best to make enquiries well in advance.
18 Holes, Par 72, Yardage 7183. Links.
